Good Coaches Video (December 7, 2019)

“All 22” or the wide sideline is a staple for all coaches when watching video. This is the “eye in the sky” and the basis for every play shot. When setting up the camera the correct filter is a must, iris set (we approve of auto iris), focus set (anyone who uses a camera should know how to focus a lens) and proper white balance.

To begin, a steady shot of all 22 players – no camera movement unless it is to adjust for players in motion or any pre-sanp shift.  As the play develops, the camera widens with the players, then comes in tight as the play comes to a stop. Too many keep the camera wide. By zooming in a the end of the play, coaches and support staff are able to read numbers on players effectively for evaluation and scouting purposes.

Future blog posts will discuss in more detail the iris, white balance and focus.
